The Guideline of Silage Wrap

What is Silage Wrap?

Silage wrap is made from LLDPE, colorant, UV stabilizer, and other auxiliary materials, etc.

It is used for packaging, protection, and fodder ensiling. Silage film is the key to the protection of the outer barrier for the whole packaging.

Specification of Silage Wrap

Standard thickness: 0.9mil, 1mil, 1.2mil, 1.5mil (22μm, 25μm, 30μm, 38μm)

Standard width: 20 inch, 30 inch. Standard length: 4920 ft, 5900 ft.

Premium Level Tensile Strength: MD=40MPa, TD=35Mpa (±5MPa tolerance)

Premium Level Elongation: MD>470%, TD>750% (±50% tolerance)

Basic Level: MD>25MPa, TD>23Mpa (Tensile strength). Elongation: MD>400%, TD>600%

Why use Silage Wrap?

  • Excellent tensile strength, puncture resistance, and UV stability
  • Impermeable to oxygen & water, to form an anaerobic environment to reduce spoilage
  • Soft and low-temperature resistant, no brittleness and freezing in a cold environment
  • Excellent UV stabilization, a minimum 12 months anti-UV warranty exposed to sunlight
  • Less wastage, easy to store, pile, transshipment, and recycle

Attention when using the Silage Wrap

1. Do NOT over-stretch when use, recommended stretch ratio is 50%-70%

2. Wrap the next layer should cover 50% of the previous layer, wrap at least 3 layers

3. The surface should be immediately sealed with tape when there is a breakage

4. The wrapped package should not be rolled on the ground for transportation

5. Storage should be kept away from livestock, frequently checked for gnawing by rodents such as mice, and immediately sealed with tape if there is any damage

6. Unused silage film should be stored in a cool environment and protected from moisture and mechanical damage

FAQ

We only provide BLOWN film to the US & Canada.

It’s 5-layer and produced by co-extruded technology.

The blown film is produced by co-extruded technology, while the cast film by casting technology.

The Tensile Strength difference between MD (mechanical direction) and TD (transverse direction) of blown film will be less than 10MPa, however, the cast film is over 10MPa.

LLDPE, colorant, UV stabilizers, etc.

Minimum 4 layers, mostly 6 layers for a perfect bale.

At least 6 mils, and preferably 8 mils of plastic wrap will cover the bale. To achieve this thickness, wrap the bale six times with 1 mil (25μm) plastic or four times with 1.5 mils (30μm) plastic.
